Botany, Big Mistakes, and Blogs

Botany is a subject that isn't explored a lot. You never hear kids say "I wanna be a botanist when I grow up", but that's ok. I'm hitting a nerdish stride this morning, and showing you the Egyptian Walking Onion to the left. Why? According to About.com's piece on Gardening, "[t]hey get the moniker Walking because if you don't harvest the bulbs, these perennial plants will walk their way across your garden". Like this blog, I've done a little blog-walking today across the blogosphere, and have taken over linking these fine blogs back to mine.

Like Shrek, I also have layers. Onions have layers. But I digress. Ok, let's get started with the new links.

I've linked back the Anaheim Duck-centric Girl With A Puck blog on the list of blogs to the right. I was a guest on the I'm Not A Puck Bunny postcast that Finny is part of, and I realized that my knowledge of southern Left Coast teams is rather sparse due to living in the Great White North. Thanks to Finny, I'm back in the know, and she has all sorts of news of the Anaheim Ducks. Check it out!

If you're a fan of the Maple Leafs, you'll want to check out the He Score, He Shoot! blog. Washington, Moose, Norte, and Greener, the four authors, do a great job with the updates on here, and are pretty funny with their views. It's certainly worth your while to head there if you have any inclination to laugh at the Leafs.

In an effort to complete the podcaster trifecta, I've also linked McPhizzle's Musings of A Radical Redhead. "Mickey P" does a fabulous job in covering left coast hockey in her own unique way, whether it be the NHL, the WHL, the AHL, the ECHL, or international hockey. She deserves a little of your attention.

I've also connected with Sit Down And Shut Up. Patrick Kissane has done a fabulous service to fans of the AHL with his work, and covers the entire league in terms of interesting notes and stories. If you're looking for AHL news in a blog format, Mr. Kissane's blog is the place to go.

And in a team-focussed AHL blog, The Admiral's Quarters gets a mention. TAQ follows the news surrounding the Norfolk Admirals. While not updated as frequently as I'd like to see, TAQ still deserves a read if you're an AHL fan. Nice work, JT Hubble!

The Usual Suspects: There are some blogs with great information and funny stuff on them. I suggest checking out some of these past articles.

A Queen Among Kings, written by I'm Not A Puck Bunny podcaster CKim, examined some of the best and funniest hockey names in the NHL.

Barry Melrose Rocks was put on high alert as the man with the mullet is now aware of the existence of the blog with his name. Personally, I think it would be uber-cool if Melrose actually got in touch with BMR and gave these guys his approval. They do a great job.

Fire Wagon Hockey linked back to Eric Nystrom's Slapshot striptease. Honestly, this is pretty awesome considering that Nystrom knows all the moves. AHL fans have never had it so good.

Land of Lakes and Hockey goes all Ricky Bobby and asks Baby Jesus for a few things she can be thankful for.
Kirsten: "Dear tiny infant Jesus..."
Teebz: "Hey, um... you know Kirsten, Jesus did grow up. You don't always have to call him baby. It's a bit odd and off puttin' to pray to a baby."
Kirsten: "Well look, I like the infant Minnesota Wild Jesus best, and I'm sayin grace. When you say grace, you can say it to grown up Jesus, or playoff Jesus, or stud centerman Jesus, or whoever you want."

Or something like that.

Sherry of Scarlett Ice shows the Ottawa Senators what will happen if they don't start playing better. Bunnies crying? Man, that's horrible! Think of the children, Senators! And bunnies, apparently!

Oopsy-Daisy: I'm not one to delve into the MEDIA vs. BLOGGER debates. However, when Mainstream Media rips bloggers for being "inaccurate" and "spreading lies", it gets me a little steamed. There have been several members of the media who have done this, and that's fine. They're entitled to their opinion. However, let's go to the proof that we all make mistakes, despite out best efforts.

We'll start with Sports Illustrated. I don't normally read SI mainly because they are to hockey as the National Enquirer is to news. Occasionally, I'll flash over to their website to see what opinions and headlines they do have because it's good to read other people's opinions. However, I've never seen anyone in the NHL named Dontrelle Willis, nor have I ever seen a team called the "Tigers", yet somehow this made the headlines on the NHL section of their website. Oops!

Rogers Sportsnet has always had questionable trade deadline shows, mainly because they employed Eklund for a short period of time. When one of your top analysts is Nick Kypreos, you're hurting for insider talent. It's probably also good to have your web guys know sports. Apparently the Stars still play in Minnesota. Oops!

Even NHL.com can't escape a mistake. Chris Joseph and Curtis Joseph have both played in the NHL. Chris was a defenceman, and Curtis is a goaltender. Apparently they are the same person, according to NHL.com's fantasy news. And it looks like the Flames and Wild are the same team. Oops!

Seriously, it's time for bloggers and the media to put away the hatred for one another, and start playing nice. We're not journalists. We know this. But we do love the game of hockey, and we can bring a different insight to the game. Can't we all just get along?

Ok, I'm out for today. I have a pile of stuff to do, so play nice, and read some blogs.

Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!

We prefer to think of it as laugh WITH the Leafs, but only so as to stop the emotional bleeding.

Thank you for the shout out! We really appreciate your readership Teebz, say hi anytime!

Thanks for the shout out! And thanks again for joining us on the last episode of the I'm Not a Puck Bunny Podcast. Finny and I enjoyed your humor and input for the whole hour.

Haha, your interpretation is priceless! I love that movie. Too bad we didn't get a stud centerman, or even just one with a better than 50% faceoff percentage.

When I was seven years old, I really wanted to be a botanist. Unfortunately, I am highly allergic to mold and pollen. You can even ask my mother, but that was my dream job.
